Following the end of British control in 1947, Pakistan gained independence and was recognised an independent state.

On Sunday, Pakistan marked 75 years of independence with official festivities in all major cities.

The ceremony was place in Karachi at the mausoleum of the nation's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Acting Governor Agha Siraj Durrani and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah laid a floral wreath at Jinnah's grave and raised the national flag.

Shah stated his support for Kashmiris living under Indian authority.

"Today, we must not forget our Kashmiri brothers and sisters who live under India's brutal oppression." "We remain steadfast in our pursuit of their liberation," he stated.

The independent state of Pakistan first came on the global arena on August 14, 1947, when the Indian subcontinent was formally partitioned into two new dominions of India and Pakistan under the terms of the Indian Independence Act, which was passed by the British Parliament.
