Instagram is experimenting with two new ways to check users' ages.

Instagram claims to be investigating two distinct methods for online user age verification.

Once users upload a video selfie of themselves, Yoti , an AI tool, will assess their ages.

The second option allows users to choose three mutual who will confirm users' ages.

Instagram, a site owned by Meta, revealed on Thursday that it is experimenting with new techniques to confirm users' ages.

According to Business Recorder, the photo/video sharing app announced that it is exploring two distinct methods that would enable users to prove their age online, beginning in the United States.

Users of the software will also be able to upload their identities on the internet.

Erica Finkle, Meta's director of data governance, said: "When we know if someone is a teen (13-17 years old), we provide them experiences that are appropriate for their age, such as setting up private accounts by default, prohibiting unwanted communication from adults they don't know, and limiting the ways that advertising can get in touch with them.

Instagram is working with Yoti, an AI programme that analyses a person's face to determine their age.

Once users share a video selfie of themselves, Yoti will estimate their ages. The social media app stated that following age verification, the videos would be removed.

The second choice gives users the chance to choose three mutual who will confirm the users' ages. The verifying party, however, must be at least 18 years old.

The choice was made after Instagram received harsh criticism following the introduction of Instagram Kids, which ultimately putting the project on pause.
