Amna Ilyas: 'Item Song' Perception Adds Degrading Spin

The Pakistani film industry has frequently debated 'to item number or not to item number.' They can't even agree on whether it's a "dance number," a "item song," or something else. Amna Ilyas is the latest celebrity to weigh in on the issue.

In particular, the supermodel-turned-actress shared her thoughts on her own item numbers in Pakistani films up to this point. The Tum Mere Paas Raho actress recently fell in hot water after dancing to the sounds of her new explosive song 'Aatish' from the film Chaudhry.

According to the Baaji star, the term "item song" and how it is interpreted do not do respect to the aim of creating these dance numbers. In an interview with a local news channel, she stated:

"I believe that society has created a specific perspective for the word 'item song,' which instantly lends a disparaging and humiliating spin to the finished work."

She also mentioned how such dancing moments bring a little something extra to the film.

"Performance songs are intended to enhance the flavour of a film." They're supposed to seduce the audience with a pleasant melody and introduce them to a dancer with flawless moves."

Amna Ilyas was most recently seen in the dance performance for the song 'Aatish' in the film Chaudhry. Azeem Sajjad directed the film, which was co-directed and produced by Neha Laaj under the umbrella of LAAJ Productions.
